Abdurrahman Khan and his successors: 1880-1933 Abdurrahman is followed on the throne by three generations of his family. They follow his pattern of an authoritarian regime dedicated to the introduction of technology and investment from more developed countries.
Zahir Shar and Daud Khan: 1933-1978 Zahir Shah reigns for 40 years and promotes Afghan interests. Afghanistan stayed neutral during another World War. Daud Khan becomes prime minister from 1953, resigns in 1963 to be re eleceted in 1973 now the prime minister of the new republic of Afghanistan.
Soviet occupation: 1979-1989 The communist prime minister, Hafizullah Amin, is either shot or commits suicide within a day of the Soviet invasion. In his place the Russians bring Babrak Karmal from Moscow, as their puppet ruler.
